LIFE IN THE AFRICAN SAVANNA
GALLERY
The Conservation Ecology Research Unit (CERU) advocates for protecting and connecting fragmented conservation landscapes across southern and East Africa to restore dispersal for the African savanna elephants. CERU also evaluates the outcomes of conservation and management interventions for elephants by focusing on population dynamics, demography, movement, and genetic profiles, describing their ecological functions, and seeking technology-driven solutions to address human-elephant conflict. Large-scale connectivity prevents habitat degradation, preserves biodiversity, and ensures the savanna remains resilient against climate change.
