CELEBRATING BIRD DIVERSITY

GALLERY

The Conservation Ecology Research Unit (CERU) supports the conservation ecology of birds across a spectrum of landscapes, from the arid regions to sub-tropical forests, suburbia, and wetlands. Birds are iconic and represent an ideal taxon for monitoring and as indicators of ecosystem health. For instance, by monitoring bird communities in regenerating coastal dune forests, we can describe the community-level patterns of species addition and replacement as an ecological process behind ecosystem development. Furthermore, the drivers behind these processes explain why some representative functional groups may still be missing in the new-growth forests following dune rehabilitation.
