OUR RESEARCH THEMES
ELEPHANT CONSERVATION
Elephants are globally endangered, and an iconic emblem of conservation. Our work focusses on various aspects of elephant conservation ecology, from demographic studies, their functional roles, movement ecology, human-elephant interactions to connectivity analysis.
Our work spans across southern and east Africa, with multiple partners across a range of sectors.

COMMUNITY AND RESTORATION ECOLOGY
We cannot understand the erosion of the natural world, unless we understand how it is built. We use classical analysis in community ecology, across a range of taxa, with new insights and novel techniques, to understand the structure, composition and function of communities across a range of taxa, the drivers that lead to their loss, and pathways to their restoration.
We have a special focus on in the Coastal Dune Forests in South Africa.

NOCTURNAL ECOLOGY
The ecology of the night-time is underappreciated. Animals at night are under more anthropogenic pressure, as the world is warming faster at night, and they must contend with light pollution also.
This theme takes a holistic view on what animals do at night and where, how that interacts with human activities, and what that means for conservation.
